Spring Safety Tips

We know that spring is a time when new neighbors move in to the neighborhood and more activity is seen throughout Midway Woods as everyone gets outside to enjoy the warm ready, work on their yard or garden, enjoy a walk through Dearborn Park, etc. And as warm and welcoming as we like to think that our neighborhood is, we do see the occasional crime, with vehicle and shed break-ins being the most commonly reported.

As new homeowners are often targeted for these types of thefts, (and as a refresher for all of us) we wanted to pass along these safety tips that can help to deter these types of crimes.

For your home, make sure that there is:

  1. Sufficient lighting in your yard (such as: motion lights, flood lights, motion sensor lights).
  2. Surveillance cameras (Ring or Nest) are very helpful.

Ensure that cars and other vehicles:

  1. Are locked at all times.
  2. Are empty of visible belongings.

To protect yard equipment:

  1. Keep these items in a locked location (shed, garage, crawl space).
  2. Have locks on fence gates and doors.
  3. Have sufficient lighting in your yard (such as: motion lights, flood lights, motion sensor lights).
