The Midway Woods Book Club is set to meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at My Parents’ Basement, 22 N Avondale Road, Avondale Estates, GA 30002. The group is reading Lessons in Chemistry: A Novel by Bonnie Garmus. Please join us!

Here’s a brief description of the novel: Meet Elizabeth Zott: “a gifted research chemist, absurdly self-assured and immune to social convention” (The Washington Post) in 1960s California whose career takes a detour when she becomes the unlikely star of a beloved TV cooking show. This novel is “irresistible, satisfying and full of fuel” (The New York Times Book Review) and “witty, sometimes hilarious…the Catch-22 of early feminism.” (Stephen King, via Twitter)

Lessons in Chemistry was selected as a book of the year The New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Oprah Daily, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, and Barnes & Noble.

The Midway Woods Book Club meets regularly to discuss books of interest to the group. Book Club participants vote on which book to read next, and then meet up (virtually or, more recently, in person, at locations such as My Parents Basement in Avondale Estates) to discuss what they’ve read and enjoy each others’ company.
