The Dearborn Area Nature Alliance (DANA) was formed two years ago by a group of volunteers who, since March of 2020, have sponsored bi-weekly work sessions in Dearborn Park to restore areas of the park that are plagued by invasive species.

The impact that volunteers have had during that time can be seen throughout the park and on the trails in the park and along Shoal Creek. A big round of applause for all of their efforts — it does not go unnoticed and is definitely appreciated.

Meet at the Dearborn Park Playground on Saturday, March 5, where,  from 10 to noon, members of DANA and volunteers will join together and work to lessen the impact of one of our park’s most invasive of species – English ivy.  It’s the Great Ivy Pull of 2022 (DANA’s second annual ivy pull) and everyone is invited to participate!

Please come help us beautify this high-visibility area of the park. With a two-hour neighborhood effort, we can enhance the day-to-day experience of all of us who visit and make use of the park.  Most importantly, the area will be more hospitable to the magnificent native trees, other native vegetation, and wildlife who live in this space.

Bring garden saws and clippers if you have them, and water to keep hydrated. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and gloves. DANA volunteers will be on hand to help instruct you on what is needed and get you started. They’ll also have snacks. And prizes!

Help your park while enjoying a safe and fun outdoor activity!
