Join us to help clean up Dearborn Park at the First Annual Great Ivy Pull — Saturday, March 6

YOU ARE INVITED TO THE DEARBORN AREA NATURE ALLIANCE’S First Annual GREAT IVY PULL!

Saturday, March 6

10am to 12:00pm at Dearborn Park along Midway Road

Dearborn Park, Midway Woods entrance

The Dearborn Area Nature Alliance (DANA) was formed one year ago by a group of volunteers who, since March of 2020, have sponsored bi-weekly work sessions in Dearborn Park to restore areas of the park that are plagued by invasive species.

The impact that volunteers have had during that time can be seen throughout the park and on the trails in the park and along Shoal Creek. A big round of applause for all of their efforts — it does not go unnoticed and is definitely appreciated.

Recently, DANA alliance volunteers removed English ivy from the trees on the strip of the park that runs along Midway Road.

On Saturday, March 6 from 10 to noon, the Midway Woods Association will join DANA in celebrating that group’s first anniversary by attacking the ivy on the ground in that area as the first annual Great Ivy Pull — and everyone is invited to participate!

Please come help us beautify this high-visibility area of the park. With a two-hour neighborhood effort, we can enhance the day-to-day experience of all of us who walk and drive along Midway or whose homes overlook the parks.  Most importantly, the area will be more hospitable to the magnificent native trees, other native vegetation, and wildlife who live in this space.

Bring garden clippers if you have them, and water to keep hydrated. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and gloves. Social distancing will be practiced (there should be plenty of room to spread out) so please wear a mask as well. DANA volunteers will be on hand to help instruct you on what is needed and get you started.

Help your park while enjoying a safe and fun outdoor activity!
