#blacklivesmatter message of solidarity

The recent tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Rayshard Brooks among so many others, have focused attention on the deep and historic levels of inequality suffered in this country by Black Americans.

The Midway Woods Association board wants to join so many other organizations in showing our support for all of the residents in our greater community and asserting that #blacklivesmatter.

The best part of our Midway Woods neighborhood comes from its diversity, and the Midway Woods Association was created in large part to help strengthen our community.  The goal of the Midway Woods Association is to be an organization that welcomes, respects, and supports the complete and full diversity of all of our residents, working together to foster a high quality of life for all residents.  The current composition of the association board does not currently reflect the diversity in our neighborhood, but we are committed to changing that.

In order to strengthen the Midway Woods Association and represent the full diversity of our neighborhood, the board would like to extend an invitation to underrepresented minority residents to join as a volunteer and help us better engage, communicate and represent everyone’s needs. It is our goal to create more diverse events and a more inclusive environment for all of our neighbors, and we believe the first step towards making that goal a reality is to have a more diverse association and board. If you are interested in being part of this change, finding out more or have suggestions for us, please reach out to us via the association email address — midwaywoodscommunications@gmail.com.

As a first step, we recognize that Black Americans and Black-owned businesses have disproportionately suffered during the current Covid-19 epidemic and one way we can show our support is by patronizing those businesses to help keep them in business.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution put together this list of more than 300 Black-owned businesses in the Atlanta area

Even closer to home, we have scheduled to have a Black-owned food truck, Guest Driven BBQ, as our feature for this month’s food truck night.  Please join us this Saturday, June 27, from 4 pm to 7 pm for some delicious food, and to show support for this business.
